Energy is the blood of our civilization. We need it to accomplish every piece of our productive system and we invest a vast amount of money and effort to improve how we transform this energy for our lives.

During the last century, we have been dependent on fossil fuels to get most of our energy in all of its forms, but an unequal distribution of its sources and the harm we are causing to our environment forces us to rethink our approach to energy generation.

As we already know, Tesla’s mission is “to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy”. This is mirrored in the company’s different business units, but mainly in its Energy business.

Tesla is in a very strong position to provide individuals, enterprises, and utilities with different solutions for power generation and storage through their product lines such as solar panels, powerwalls, powerpacks, and megapacks.

Most of us only know Tesla’s car business, but it is expected that this will be a minor unit for the company in the next decade. Transportation is just one leg of the global warming problem and we need to go to the root which is fossil fuels used for power generation. And it is difficult to solve it without the capability of power storage.

Power storage

Many times, Elon has been asked about the future of power generation and storage. It is clear we have to stop relying on fossil fuel consumption and invest in solar and wind, but as we have heard many times, these sources are not stable in time as we can only generate power in daylight with solar and when the wind blows with wind turbines.

Here is where Tesla comes in with a solution for electricity storage. In recent years this wasn’t an option as storage, in its multiple forms, was a very expensive…
